Drapery Pictures Showing Various Widths/Fullness
Below are examples of the varying fullness on different sized windows, so you can decide what is best for your situation. Each picture has a description. You can spread the panels out with more space between the pleats, or you can stack the pleats tightly. With Single Width Drapes, to make them appear fuller, you can spread out the panels like in the first picture below. For wider widths if you don’t want the panels to cover too much of the glass or block light, you can stack the pleats tighter together.
SINGLE WIDTH DRAPES
The Single Width Drapes below are in Mrs. Alice Pink Ikat Stripe Single and are functional on a 40” long rod. These were made to Puddle on the floor of the Little Girls Room. The drapery rods are mounted half way up the wall between the top of the window casing and the bottom of the crown molding. 5 Butterfly (Double Pinch) Pleats per panel.

These Single Width Drapes in Kravet Dublin Linen in Bleach are stacked more tightly to keep the drapes off the window. The drapery rod extends just a few inches past each side of the window, so a tighter stack allows more light in the room during the day. These drapes can be closed over the window and will cover the whole 40” rod. 5 Butterfly Pleats per panel.
1 1/2 WIDTH DRAPES
These 1 ½ Width Pleated Drapes in Schumacher Kenmare Linen in White with Samuel & Sons Milo Embroidered Border in Marine below are Decorative. The French Rod is 67” long which extends several inches past each side of the window to make the windows feel wider, and also to keep the drapes off the glass so that stack mostly on the wall for maximum light. These 1 ½ Width Drapes in Designers Guild Mokuren Indigo are functional. The French Rod is 52” long extending a few inches past each side of the window, so the drapes fit nicely in the corner and along side the mantle. These drapes are stacked tightly so they don’t cover the glass, allowing in maximum light. French Rods are Helser Brothers 1 1/4” Diameter in Coal. 8 Double Euro Pleats per panel.
These 1 ½ Width Drapes are decorative and the same size on both windows in Schumacher Santa Monica Ikat China Blue. Horizon Shade Blinds are Blakely in Pale Almond. French Rods are Helser Brothers 7/8” Diameter in Alabaster. Windows are 37 ¼” Wide and 71” Wide. Rods are 47.25” and 81” long, extending 5” past each side of the windows. 1 ½ Width Drapes on both of the windows, even though they are different sizes, create a nice symmetry.
DOUBLE WIDTH DRAPES
These Double Width Drapes are extra full and functional in Schumacher Brighton Pavilion in Multi which is sold as a full panel. Trim is Samuel & Sons Sloane Striped Border Blush. Drapes pool 1 ½” on the Floor. Brimar Square Drapery Hardware with Satin Gold Square Rings. 10 Triple Pinch Pleats per panel.
These Double Width Drapes are decorative but could also be functional. Drapes are in Schumacher Pyne Hollyhock Charcoal. Double width allows the pleats to spread out so more of the beautiful floral design is visible giving the room a lush feel. Because the windows are double width, single width drapes would look skimpy. If double width do not fit into your budget, 1 ½ Width Drapes could be considered, though this width would be decorative as they would not be wide enough to cover the windows. 10 Triple Pinch Pleats per panel.
These Double Width Drapes are decorative in Schumacher Great Barrier Reef II in Indigo. This is an Outdoor Polyester fabric that is light fast and weather resistant for a beach house. This fabric is also available in linen in 5 colors. Horizon Shade Blinds are Blakely in Pale Almond without lining. French Rods are Helser Brothers 7/8” Diameter in Alabaster. Window is 118” Wide and Drapery Rod is 130” long to allow for the drapes to stack partially on the wall. For wide windows, decorative drapes that are double width are preferable, because proportionately single width and 1 ½ Width can look skimpy. 10 Triple Euro Pleats per panel.
These Double Width Drapes in Schumacher Iconic Leopard in Ink are decorative drapes. Drapes that are single width or 1 ½ Width would look skimpy on such a wide window. These are hung on 24” short rods installed on each end of the window. 8 Triple Pinch Pleats per panel.
2 1/2 WIDTH DRAPES
These 2 ½ Width Drapes are Functional in Kravet Dublin Linen in Sky. The Rod is 99” long, so when the drapes are closed they will cover the Doors and the whole rod. 15 Double Pinch Pleats per panel.
These 2 ½ Width Drapes are functional in Trend 01838T Linen/Cotton in Coconut. The Drapes are 125” long. When Drapes are over 108”, double width or 2 ½ Width look best proportionately so drapes do not look skimpy because of the long length. Arched Window is 64” Wide. Drapery Rod is 96” long. 2 ½ Width Drapes will cover the window and the whole rod when closed. 10 Double Pinch Pleats per panel.
TRIPLE WIDTH DRAPES
These Triple Width Drapes are functional in Schumacher Brighton Pavilion in Multi which is sold as a full panel. Trim is Samuel & Sons Sloane Striped Border Blush. Drapes pool 1 ½” on the Floor.
